Every girl (from the beauty nuts to the girl-next-door types) should have at least one amazing red lipstick in their makeup basics. It's a fool-proof pick-me-up colour that will score you compliments even if the rest of you isn't feeling so crash-hot. I can already hear the cries of 'I can't wear red!', but yes, you can. You just need to choose the right shade.
Quick tips you should know:
- Red lipsticks tend to fall into two categories: Orange-based (which works brilliantly on fair-haired girls with fair skin, or fair-haired girls that have just spent some time in the sun), and blue-based (amazing on dark-haired beauties).
- The easiest way to tell if a lippie is ornage or blue-based is to put some on and smile! If your teeth appear whiter, the shade is a blue.
- Prepping your lips is a must. Wear some skin-quenching lip balm overnight, and about 10 minutes before you put on your lippie to stop lips from drying out.
- Wearing a matte shade all day? Gently dab some lip balm over your lipstick once it starts to feel dry and press lips together. Lip balm and lipstick have a similar consistency, so they play well together.
