I came across a fitness product called the Shake Weight, claiming to rid you of flabby arms. Now, Im not a big girl but Ive never had skinny or toned arms. For me, theyre one body part that never seems to change so I was keen to try it out.
From the look of the packaging you expect it’s going to be a heavy hand weight that vibrates, and works in the same way that those Vibratone platforms do.  Turns out you have to make the shaking happen, and therein lies the beauty of the product…

You open the box to reveal what looks like a typical a 2.5lb hand weight, however the ‘bar’ is secured to the ‘weights’ with rubber spring-like things so when you shake it the ‘weights’ sort of jiggle.  Essentially, you are vibrating the weight and your muscles are worked (and I mean worked) by making it happen.

It’s claimed that doing a six minute work out with the Shake Weight every day for just over two weeks will noticeably tone your arms.

With the product you receive an instructional DVD which takes you through a six minute upper body work out.  I did the work out and my arms and shoulders were burning.  There are times where it’s really hard, but you just stick the grinning, skinny, muscle-woman shown below and you get through it.  I did it about 40 minutes ago and my lats and biceps still feel worked actually.

Thus, I tend to think six minutes a day really would improve the tone of your arm muscles, chest and shoulders and well, this is Tried & Tested, so I’m taking on the challenge.  Today’s Day 1.  I’ll give you updates on days 5, 10 and 15 and let’s see if there really is a noticeable difference…

Day 5 - 2nd March 2010
Well the first piece of news is that I have stuck to the regime!  Six minutes a day really is not hard to fit in.  I just keep the DVD in my player constantly and run it after my daily dog-walk.  Overall I'm feeling good and still feeling quite worked after a session although not as much as the first time.  Unfortunately I have found that the Shake Weight has emphasised a pre-existing shoulder issue I have but that's just me.  I'm able to work around it during the shoulder section of the work out, which in my books is by far the hardest!  See the Day 5 pic below.  No real discernable difference but I feel on track to improvement.
