With winter nearly over it's time to start preparing your feet for those gorgeous summer sandals. Having your feet tucked into boots all winter, it's about time you get your toes up to scratch. Lush has a variety of great pedicure products that are simple to use at home. Not only do they help you get your toes twinkling but Lush use fresh vegetarian ingredients (with no preservatives) and they don't test on animals.
Here are a few products to help you get rid of hard, unsightly skin and leave your feet exfoliated, moisturised and softened.
Stepping Stone foot scrub ($5.95/75g) is shaped like a foot and contains lots of pumice to slough away hard skin, along with a blend of softening and easily absorbed oils to stop you slipping over when you step into the shower. To use, massage this little foot onto moistened feet to really get to grips with hard skin. The cocoa butter and jojoba oil will soften and smooth without being excessively greasy, while there’s lycopodium powder to gently deodorise. Fragranced with uplifting and refreshing lemon and lime, this scrub is great after a long day where all you want to do is put your feet up and relax.
After a good scrub, dry your feet and slather on some moisturiser. This is great for leaving feet soft and smooth but incorporating massage for your feet can actually help to improve circulation, which can reduce the risk of varicose veins.
Use a rich cream like
Fair Trade Foot Lotion ($25.95/225g) for the ultimate relief after a long day, it has lashings of softening cocoa butter (which is bought from a certified Fair Trade supplier). The lotion contains peppermint and spearmint essential oils to stimulate circulation and cool the feet; relieving aches and pains. These oils also have antibacterial/antifungal properties and are deodorising.
A great alternative foot moisturiser for those who aren't into such a rich cream is the warming
Pied de Pepper ($20.95/100g). It contains olive oil and Fair Trade cocoa butter to moisturise, soften, soothe and reduce dehydration. Clove oil, cinnamon and ginger essential oils are very warming, helps circulation and brings relief to aches and pains. This is especially great if you’ve been exercising. This is also a nice relief for people who suffer from cold extremeties.
To help bring some life back to your nails, use a cuticle cream like Lush's
Lemony Flutter cuticle butter ($15.50/50g) is perfect for applying on not only cuticles, but also the stubborn hard skin on toes and heels. It has a refreshing lemon scent due to the lemon oil which is very softening and used to treat corns and callouses. The blend of very rich oils, including flaxseed, castor oil, palm kernel oil, soya oil, organic avocado all nourish and soften. To use, slather on dry, hard skin on the feet, put socks on and leave overnight and behold - feet will be softened in the morning!
And for really troublesome feet which are tougher than leather, try Lush's
Volcano foot mask and scrub ($19.95/250g) which blasts troublesome or abused feet. It is made from fresh organic potatoes, fresh organic papaya and kaolin for drawing and dissolving dirt and to really deep cleanse. Fresh organic tomatoes are excellent at deodorising whilst pumice pummels hard skin and glycerine carries moisture into the skin. The essential oils of lemon and cinnamon leaf enhance the mask’s cleansing action, stimulate and are antifungal and antibacterial. To use apply generously to clean feet, wrap each foot in a plastic bag and leave for 5-10 mins. Remove bag, gently massage into feet and rinse with warm water.
To finish of your home pedicure, use
T for Toes ($15.95/100g) to beat stinky feet. All you need to do is shake this on your feet and in your shoes before you head out to keep your feet smelling pretty.
